THE CATHOLIC CHILD AND THE PRIEST
My Child:
Someone has said that it is a sign of salvation to have a great love
for Priests. Why is this so?
Because the Priest takes the place of our Blessed Lord on earth.
When Jesus went to Heaven, He left the Priest to take His place. He
left the Priest so that you would have someone to whom you could go in
all your difficulties and trials.
What does the Priest do for you?
He lives for you. He is always ready to help you. He has the wonderful
Sacraments in his hands.
In Baptism he washes your soul from sin. In Confession he raises his
hand and says the words that Jesus taught him to say and frees you from
the chains of sin. From his hands, in Holy Communion, you receive the
Infant Jesus Himself. In sickness, in sorrow, in death, the Priest is
always near you to help you, to advise you, to comfort you, to save
you.
Jesus loved you so much. He wanted to be always near you. He wants to
do many things for you. He does them all through His Priest.
Happy the child that makes a friend of the Priest. Go to him. Ask his
advice. Do what you can to help him in his work. And do not forget him
in your prayers.
A Prayer for Priests
O MY good Jesus! teach me always to see Thyself in the
Priest. I know that he has been set over me to direct me and to help
me to save my soul. I know that Thou wilt never find fault with me if I
obey him in everything in order to do Thy Holy Will. Teach me to love
him and to respect him always. Do Thou protect him and be near him in
his great work of saving souls. Keep him from harm. Help him to bring
many souls to Thee and thus to win for himself a glorious crown in
Heaven. Amen.
