CHILDREN'S PRAYERS FOR THEIR
PARENTS
Almighty and Everlasting God, in the secret
counsels of Thy loving
Providence, Thou hast called us into life by means of our parents who
thereby share in Thy Divine power. Mercifully hear the prayer of
childlike love which we offer to Thee for those with whom Thou hast
shared Thy fatherly kindness, that they might lavish upon us throughout
the years the consoling gift of Thy holy and generous love.
Dear Lord, fill our parents with Thy choicest blessings and enrich
their souls with Thy holy grace. Grant that they may faithfully and
constantly guard that likeness to Thy spiritual union with Thy
Church, which Thou hast imprinted upon them on their wedding day. Fill
them with Thy spirit of holy fear, which is the beginning of wisdom,
and enable them to impart it always to their children. Thus may they
ever walk in the way of Thy commandments; and may their children be
their joy in this earthly exile and their crown of glory in their
heavenly home.
Finally, Lord God, grant that both our father and our mother may reach
a ripe old age and enjoy continuous health in mind and body. May they
deserve to sing Thy praises forever in our heavenly homeland together
with us, their children. May
they give Thee abundant thanks for having bestowed upon them in this
valley of tears the great privilege of sharing in Thine infinite
fruitfulness and Thy Divine fatherhood. Amen.
My
God, I thank Thee for the Sacrament of Matrimony, which provided me
with a Catholic home. Thou didst give me my father and mother and made
them an
image of Thine authority and love and tender watchfulness. Thou
commandest me to love, honor and obey them. Give me the grace to love
my
parents sincerely, to honor them and yield a ready obedience to their
commands, to comply with their wishes, to accept their corrections with
humility, and to bear their shortcomings with patience. Let me seek
their happiness in everything. Thus make me worthy of the reward Thou
hast promised those who honor their father and their mother according
to Thy Fourth Commandment: that it be well with me in this life and in
the next.
My God, bless my dear parents who have co-operated with Thy graces and
have taken care of me. Bless them for the Catholic education they have
provided for me. Bless them for the good example they have given me,
for the prayers they have taught me, for the corrections they have
given me. Bless them for the home-training I received at their hands.
Bless them for all the prayers they have said for me and for the
encouragement which they have given me.
Grant them Thy help and consolation in this world as a reward for
their charity in this life, and, after a happy death, eternal glory in
Heaven. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Sweetest Jesus, as a child Thou wert obedient to Mary and Joseph at
Nazareth. Thou didst leave to children a beautiful example of love and
obedience to parents and of wonderful respect for all men. I most
earnestly beg Thee, help me to try to keep my eyes upon Thee always and
in all things, so that, as I grow older, I too may grow in Thy grace
and love. Who livest and reignest forever. Amen.
