THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS

In the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass the Body and Blood of Our Lord is offered daily under the form of bread and wine in remembrance of His Passion and Death on the Cross.

In order to share in the merits of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, we must attend with devotion, keeping our thoughts especially on the three principal parts:

1. The Offertory, at which the priest offers to God the bread and wine to be changed at the Consecration.
2. The Consecration, at which the substance of the bread and wine is changed into the substance of Christ's Body and Blood.
3. The Communion, at which the priest receives the Holy Eucharist under the appearance of bread and wine.

We should be in church before the priest comes to the altar and should never leave before he returns to the sacristy.

Continue forward for the Holy Mass in pictures with some prayers from the Penny Catechism. Not every page has an attached prayer.

The Pelican is a symbol of the grace of Jesus Christ's Sacrifice on the Cross distributed through the
Holy Mass because the Pelican feeds its young with its own blood.
