The Holy Face of Jesus

Our Lord gave to the Carmelite, Sister Mary of St. Peter [1816-1848], many promises for those who honor His Holy Face. These include:

"By My Holy Face you will work wonders."

"Through this Holy Face you will obtain the conversion of many sinners. Nothing that you ask in virtue of the Holy Face will be refused you. Oh, if you only knew how pleasing is the sight of My Face to My Father!"

"Just as, in an earthly kingdom, money which is stamped with the picture of the sovereign or ruling executive of the country procures whatever one desires to purchase, so, likewise, in the Kingdom of Heaven, you shall obtain all that you desire by offering the coin of My precious humanity, which is My adorable Face."

"I will give you My adorable Face, and each time that you present it to My Father, My mouth will be open to plead your cause."

Here is a brief but powerful Holy Face offering, which can be memorized and repeated many times during the day:

Offering of the Holy Face

ETERNAL Father, I offer Thee the adorable Face of Thy Beloved Son, for the honor and glory of Thy Name, for the conversion of sinners, and for the salvation of the dying.

[Here you may add: especially (Name)]

Holy Face Prayer for Sinners
by St. Therese of Lisieux

ETERNAL Father, since Thou hast given me for my inheritance the Adorable Face of Thy Divine Son, I offer that Face to Thee. I beg Thee, in exchange for this coin of infinite value, to forget the ingratitude of  souls dedicated to Thee and to pardon all poor sinners.

The following prayer was dictated by Our Lord to Sister Mary of St. Peter as a prayer of reparation for sins of blasphemy. He told her that the two sins which offend Him most grievously are blasphemy and the profanation of Sunday. He called this prayer the "Golden Arrow," and told Sister Mary of St. Peter that by saying it a soul would pierce Him delightfully and heal the wounds inflicted on Him by the malice of sinners. Sister Mary saw, streaming from the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was delightfully wounded by this "Golden Arrow," torrents of graces for the conversion of sinners.

This seems to be one of the secrets of Heaven, i.e., that prayers of reparation have a double effect: in addition to making atonement to God, they act as a holy "boomerang" to bring down a shower of graces on souls, as well as on the one who offers them.

The Golden Arrow may be said alone or along with the seven short prayers that follow, all of which were revealed to Sr. Mary of St. Peter. Together they compose one of the most powerful Catholic prayers we have.

The Golden Arrow

MAY the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible and ineffable Name of God be always praised, blessed, loved, adored and glorified in Heaven, on earth and under the earth, by all the creatures of God and by the Sacred Heart of  our Lord Jesus Christ in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Amen.

Prayers

O Lord Jesus Christ, in presenting ourselves before Thine adorable Face to ask of Thee the graces of which we stand most in need, we beseech Thee above all, to grant us that interior disposition of never refusing at any time to do what Thou requirest of us by Thy holy Commandments and Divine inspirations. Amen.

O good Jesus, Who hast said, 'Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find, Knock and it shall be opened to you'; grant, us, O Lord, that faith which obtains all, or supply in us what may be deficient; grant, us, by the pure effect of Thy charity and for Thine eternal glory the graces which we need, and which we look for from Thine infinite mercy. Amen.

Be merciful to us, O my God, and reject not our prayers, when amid our afflictions, we call upon Thy Holy Name and seek with love and confidence Thine adorable Face. Amen.

O Almighty and Eternal God, look upon the Face of Thy Son Jesus. We present It to Thee with confidence to implore Thy pardon. The All-Merciful Advocate opens His mouth to plead our cause; hearken to His cries, behold His tears, O God, and through  His infinite merits hearken to Him when He intercedes for us poor miserable sinners. Amen.

Adorable Face of my Jesus, my only Love, my Light, and my Life, grant that I may know Thee, love Thee and serve Thee alone, that I may live with Thee, of Thee, by Thee and for Thee. Amen.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the adorable Face of Thy Beloved Son for the honor and glory of Thy Name, for the conversion of sinners and the salvation of the dying.

O Divine Jesus, through Thy Face and Name, save us. Our hope is in the virtue of Thy Holy Name!
