Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Iroquois Virgin:
1656-1680 by Fr. N. V. Burtin, OMI Devotions PRAYER
FOR CANONIZATION
Born at Auriesville, NY , 1656 Baptized at Fonda, NY 1676 Died at Caughnawaga, Canada, April 17, 1680 Declared Venerable by Pius XII January 3, 1943 Beatified by John Paul II June 22, 1980 NOVENA TO KATERI TEKAKWITHA Kateri, favored child and Lily of the Mohawks, I come to seek thine intercession in my present need: [mention it]. I admire the virtues which adorned thy soul: love of God and neighbor, humility, obedience, patience, purity and the spirit of sacrifice. Help me to imitate thine example in my state of life. Through the goodness and mercy of God, Who hast blessed thee with so many graces which led thee to the true faith and to a high degree of holiness, pray to God for me and help me. Obtain for me a very fervent devotion to the Holy Eucharist so that I may love Holy Mass as thou didst and receive Holy Communion as often as I can. Teach me also to be devoted to my crucified Savior as thou wert, that I may cheerfully bear my daily crosses for love of Him Who suffered so much for love of me. Most of all, I beg thee to pray for me that I may avoid sin, lead a holy life and save my soul. Amen. In Thanksgiving to God for the graces bestowed upon Kateri: One Our Father, Hail Mary, and Three Glory Be's Kateri, Lily of the Mohawks, pray for me.A Chaplet of Prayers dedicated in honor of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, Lily of the Mohawks ORDER OF RECITATION 1. Kiss the Cross and make the Sign of the Cross with it, saying, "In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." Ask God to make Kateri a Saint, and petition her to help you in your personal needs. 2. Recite an Our Father on each of the 8 Brown Beads; a Hail Mary on each of the 8 Red Beads; and a Glory Be on each of the 8 Crystal Beads. 3. Make the Sign of the Cross as above. EXPLANATION AND MEANING OF THIS CHAPLET THE CROSS The cross is of Sturolite, nature's amazing wonder mineral found in the shape of tiny crosses in the Blue ridge Mountains of Virginia, North Carolina, and New Mexico. There is an Indian legend that on the day that Christ died on the Cross, the woodland animals wept, their tiny tears falling upon the earth and crystallizing into these tiny crosses. THE 24 BEADS Kateri, whose name means, "Putting things in order" and "moving all things before her," was 24 when she departed from this world; the beads symbolize her 24 short but fruitful years on earth. BROWN BEADS Earth colors are popular with Indians and brown is the predominantly color of earth. Kateri's moccasins in which she walked the woods distributing her handmade crosses, were brown also. RED BEADS Red [Moonstone red] is the traditional color for love, symbolizing God's love for this sweet Saint and the love she bore Him in the Eucharist and for His Blessed Mother. Ask Kateri's intercession to Mary to form this love in all our hearts and to lead us back to Christ when we fall away. CRYSTAL BEADS See the legend above. May the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, through Kateri's prayers, convert the world to the One True God and His One True Church. The Litany of Blessed Kateri is next, click forward or use the java menu below.
