Mother of God, Almudena, Madrid, Spain This Mother of God statue makes
its home in the La Almudena Cathedral in Madrid. She is not a
miraculous image but the Almudena Virgin is highly venerated from at
least as early as 1377. On November 10, 1948 in the Plaza de las Ameria
the statue was crowned in a ceremony, and the Almudena Madonna as she
is known locally, was proclaimed the Patron of Madrid. The Madonna is
in remarkable condition with only a few age stains which we easily
removed. The backdrop of the altar piece is an exquisite panorama of
various scenes [18 in all] in the life of Christ, including the
Annunciation. TO VIEW A PHOTO OF THIS ON FLICKER, GO HERE. FOR A TOUR BY PHOTOS OF THE CATHEDRAL, GO HERE. |
