March 2
, 1876----

Reign: from March 2, 1939 until his death.

Welcome to our page in honor of Venerable Pope Pius XII.

Pope Pius XII was the Pontiff under whose reign I was born and grew to young womanhood. I had a tender affection for him then as my spiritual Father on earth and the Shepherd of my soul. Now, as I look back and indeed, ahead, that affection has become more tender because of the opprobrium heaped upon him by historical revisionists and those who harbor a hatred of Tradition in their hearts. Just as persecution makes one stronger in his faith, defending one in such a situation intensifies one's devotion to his memory, not as one wished or thought it ought to be, but that which ought to be because it is the one that is, by the grace of God.

Dearest Pope of my heart and happy Catholic childhood, I pray that my meager offering will be but the beginning of an entire chain of internet sites devoted to thee, for the sake of justice, history, and Tradition, not only for us but the generation that will come after we have gone, and may the Holy Mother of God look after our efforts on behalf of her child, Pius.

Below you will find a list of links, some here at Catholic Tradition and many external. The graphic above is a composite which I made in memory of a series of articles we ran defending Pius' record in the old Guardian of some years ago, titled, "A Light Unto the Nation". These were based on the Lichten book, see below.

 Quotations:

Pope Pius XII said, and this is just after the world had undergone the horrors of the Second World War, and people were yearning for peace:

"The world must soon undergo suffering such as never existed in the history of the world. Soon the human race must undergo the worst suffering that there has ever been."

----Cited by Fr. Paul Kramer in
THE IMMINENT CHASTISEMENT FOR NOT FULFILLING OUR LADY'S REQUESTS,
The Fatima Crusader,
Summer 2005, Issue No. 80

While he was still serving as Vatican Secretary of State during the reign of Pius XI, speaking even before Sister Lucy had committed the Third Secret [of Fatima] to paper, the future Pius XII made an astonishing prophecy about a coming upheaval in the Church:

I am worried by the Blessed Virgin's messages to Lucy of Fatima. This persistence of Mary about the dangers which menace the Church is a Divine warning against the suicide of altering the Faith, in Her liturgy, Her theology and Her soul.  . . . I hear all around me innovators who wish to dismantle the Sacred Chapel, destroy the universal flame of the Church, reject her ornaments and make her feel remorse for her historical past.

Pius XII's biographer, Msgr. Roche, noted that at this moment in the conversation, according to a Count Galeazzi, "the gaze of the Pope, seen through the lenses of his glasses, became supernatural, and there emanated from his tall and slender body an irresistible mystical force."

Pius XII then said (in answer to an objection from a curial Cardinal):

A day will come when the civilized world will deny its God, when the Church will doubt as Peter doubted. She will be tempted to believe that man has become God. In our churches, Christians will search in vain for the red lamp where God awaits them. Like Mary Magdalene, weeping before the empty tomb, they will ask, "Where have they taken Him?" [Roche, Pie XII Devant L'Histoire, pp. 52-53.]

It is quite remarkable that the future Pope would relate this apparently supernatural intuition of coming devastation in the Church specifically to "the Blessed Virgin's messages to Lucy of Fatima" and "this persistence of Mary about the dangers which menace the Church."

---------Cited in THE DEVIL'S FINAL BATTLE, edited by Fr. Paul Kramer, p. 34.

Found in Dedicated Decades magazine, Spring 2004 issue:

"Today, more than ever before devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary is needed ... Men must take refuge in this fortress; they must trust in this sweet Heart!"
