ST. VINCENT MARY STRAMBI
He was born in Civitavecchia, Italy, in 1745. Shortly after being
ordained as a diocesan priest he entered the recently founded
Congregation of the Passion, primarily to preach the Passion of Jesus
throughout Italy. He was an author of devotional and pious works; he
was especially devoted to the Precious Blood. As a priest he was also
known as a spiritual director. He would later be consecrated the Bishop
of Macerata and Tolentino; as Bishop she strove to foster sanctity in
his priests and people. During the crises of the various political
revolutions of his time he fought to preserve the liberty of the
Church, even at the cost of being exiled from his diocese.
Pope Leo XII called him to Rome to be his advisor, and when that Pope
fell gravely ill, Vincent Mary offered his life to God for him. He died
in 1824.
PRAYER TO ST. VINCENT
All-powerful and ever-living God, Thou didst make Thy Bishop, Saint
Vincent Mary, a devoted shepherd of Thy flock and a faithful servant of
the Church. Strengthen us by his example to love our neighbor as
members of Thy Church. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy
Son, Who livest and reignest with Thee and the Holy Spirit, one God,
for ever and ever. Amen.
