St. Joachim August 16 Joachim is the name traditionally given to the father of the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to the same tradition, he was born at Nazareth, married St. Anne while young and when publicly reproached for their childlessness, fasted for forty days in th desert. An Angel appeared to him and promised the couple a child. He died soon after witnessing the Presentation of Jesus in the temple.
