Emmanuel Foster, of Bingham Maine, the first to die in Europe from
that
town, was my mother's brother and my godfather. He was only 23 when
he died in Beek Holland on September 20, 1944; born in Quebec, Canada
and newly immigrated to the USA, he enlisted in the Army. While the
rest of his siblings would become naturalized citizens, he, who never
had the chance, was awarded the Purple Heart, earning his citizenhip by
giving his life for his adopted country. I am very grateful to the
Dutch who buried him there until after the end of World War II, when
his body was reinterred in Bingham. And I am most grateful to Captain
John West who is a representative for preserving the memory of those
who served in OPERATION MARKET GARDEN as a paratrooper with the 82
Airborne Division, memorialized in the movie, A BRIDGE TOO FAR.
May God bless him in his labors on behalf of patriotism and its highest
and most noble work, the preservation of our nation and its God-given
freedoms.
I pray and hope that my "Uncle Chip" is now in Heaven and that Saint
Michael the Archangel himself escorted him before the Blessed Trinity.
Thank Thee, O holy God, for creating my beloved uncle and bringing him
to
America to serve Thee and America! God bless all the men who served in
the Market Garden operation and those who honor them today.

Niece of Emmanuel Foster
