The
Angels of Christmas
Sometimes God lets men and women see
His Angels.
Then we know a little
more about Heaven,
and we are very happy. That happened
on the first
Christmas Eve.
Jesus was born in the stable of Bethlehem.
"And it came to pass that she brought forth her first-born
Son and
wrapped Him up in swaddling clothes and laid Him
in a manger, for there
was no room for them in the inn.
The people of the city were too tired or too busy
to pay attention.
But God put a glorious star in the sky for them to see. Then He sent a
band of His beautiful Angels down to sing the first
Christmas song. It is one of the most beautiful hymns ever heard.
"Glory to God in the highest," they sang, "and peace on earth to men of
good will." It was a hymn of joy that God had become a little baby.
"And there were in that same country shepherds watching, and keeping
the night watches over their flocks. And behold an Angel of the Lord
stood by them and the brightness of God shone around them and they
feared with a great fear.
And the Angel said to them: Fear not, for behold, I bring you good
tidings of great joy. 'For on this day is born to you a Savior Who is
Christ the Lord.' "
The shepherds saw and heard them, and ran to find the King. So every
Christmas we remember the Angels and their song, and we are happy too.
Hymn to the
Angels
Sweet
Angel of mercy
By Heaven's decree
Benignly appointed
To watch over me.
Without thy protection
So constant and nigh
I could not well live,
I should perish and die. |
All
thanks for thy love,
Dear companion and friend
Oh, may it continue
With me to the end.
O cease not to keep me
Blessed guide of my youth
In the way of religion
And virtue and truth. |
