Gallery, Section One Bust of Pope Paul III GUGLIELMO DELLA PORTA 1534 1534 to 1549 This Pope reigned during the succession of King Henry VII in England. In the year this bust was executed, Pope Paul invited any Catholic prince to take possession of the heretic king's kingdom, but no one did, so Henry died with all his possessions and all those he seized from the Church. To show his contempt of Paul III, Henry had Archbishop John Fisher of Rochester beheaded. The Pontiff had attempted to save the life of the Martyr by raising him to the office of Cardinal.
