Fifth Sorrowful Mystery:
The Crucifixion
When Our Lord finally reached the Hill of Calvary, the soldiers
stripped Him of His clothes. They stretched Him out on the Cross, and
nailed His Hands and Feet to it. They then raised it upright, leaving
Our Blessed Lord hanging from it in pain beyond telling. Meanwhile
Jesus was praying for His murderers and for us all, begging His Father
to forgive us. He also gave us the person he loved most on earth, His
own dear Mother. And after three hours of agony, in the presence of His
most afflicted Mother, God the Son died.
FRUIT OF THE MYSTERY: ZEAL FOR THE SALVATION OF SOULS
-----THE CONVERSION OF SINNERS, PERSEVERANCE OF THE JUST AND THE RELIEF OF THE SOULS IN PURGATORY
The Good Shepherd gave His life for His sheep! His desire to save us
all had moved Him to His death. Consider how our dying Saviour was
still thirsting for our souls. It was for them that He had become man
and suffered such dread cruelty. For them He gave His life. He saw
nevertheless that many would be lost; and this thought filled His
loving Heart with anguish. It is to be our concern to comfort His
burning love by caring duly for our own souls and those of our
neighbors. The greatest joy that we can give the Heart of Mary, is to
work zealously and devotedly for the salvation of our neighbors.
